Best Chick Flicks Ever (and holiday romantic comedies too)

I love the escapism of a really great romantic comedy, especially during the holidays. Great for relaxing after a day or work, when the kids are asleep, hubby is in his man-cave, or when girlfriends are over. The criteria I use to pick my favorite rom-com's is how many times they get watched in a year and also if I find myself having a big smile on my face throughout the movie. One thing that's so typical of romantic movies is the plot - girl meets boy, they fall in love, there's a misunderstanding and inevitable fall-out... and then the miserable couple resolve their issues and live happily ever after. I know... so predictable.. yet so much fun!! So get the wine & popcorn and enjoy my pics for top chick flicks ever!

Highlights: I start the Christmas season every year with this movie. The ensemble cast is hilarious and Michael Rispoli and the late, great Peter Boyle are a hoot.

Highlights: I'm an unrepentant Twi-Grandma! I think the reason women of all ages love this movie is that it reminds them of being young and in love. Such a cool franchise!

Highlights: The movie begins with real footage of Julia the "movie star". Worth the watch. Funniest find is the "perverted Spike" played by Rhys Ifans... steals the movie!

Highlights: This steamy British movie is another older woman/younger man romance. I wonder why I like these movies in particular? This one will require a box of kleenex.

Highlights: Set in Seattle and the holidays... this movie is a classic! Rosie O'Donnell and Rob Reiner have some choice scenes and are very funny. Norah Ephron hit it out of the ball park.

Highlights: A woman (Ryan) flies to France to confront her straying fiancé, but gets into trouble when the charming crook (Kline) seated next to her uses her for smuggling. Meg at her talkative best. Gorgeous French scenery.

GI Jane   G.I. Jane (1997)

Starring: Demi Moore and Viggo Mortensen
Highlights: Not exactly a rom com as the genre is known, but I did enjoy Demi Moore's character being empowered and shaving her head. First discovered Viggo Mortensen!

Highlights: An oldie but a goodie. Who can forget Meg's "scene" in the restaurant with the favorite line... "I'm having what she's having".
